Our First Annual Book Sale and Barbecue took place Saturday Oct 2.  It was a great day of fellowship and feast.  We were able to promote the camp, meet new people, and tape interviews of our three guest authors-Jim Perloff, Earl Wallace and Sam Blumenfeld.  Look for the interviews on Camp Constitution’s Youtube account.

Greetings fellow campers and counselors. Friday, September 17th is Constitution Day. More than being The Law of The Land, the constitution is our most valuable property, the framework of our home, America.

It is the roof over our head and the lock on the door. If it goes, then comes the knock on the door, like a thief in the night…. We discuss the Constitution in just about every episode of the Midnight Ride,  every episode available free at http://themidnightridecast.com/     An especially relevant episode is the one with Constitutional Scholar, Dr. Edwin Vieira, entitled: The Fight at the Constitutional Convention, which shows the atmosphere of chaos and turmoil which was going on in the states which led to the convention, and the extreme negative reaction to the constitution on the part of some, like Patrick Henry, which led to the addition of The Bill of Rights.

We recently had a generous donation of over 1,000 books which include many classic novels, books on acting, plays, etc.

Summer camp programs can be a wonderful experience for all children if you chose the right camp for them…If you follow certain guidelines, you can help your child have the best experience possible. These steps involve ‘choosing the right type of camp’, checking out the ‘facilities and staff’, and preparing your child for the upcoming children’s summer camp.

The idea of a youth summer camp can induce strong emotions on the part of parents and children. These sensations run the gamut from ‘excitement and fun’ to ‘fear and anxiety’. Summer camps are one of the best experiences which we enjoy, they are one of the most sought after events and people love the fact that they are going to summer camps. Basically there are two main designations for summer camps but there are many different types of summer camps. The classification of the two designations of the summer camps is as follows: day camps and the sleep away camps. In the day camps people visit the camps during the day and they return back to their place in the evening, thus the day camps more specific for the kids and the people who are committed. The second kind of designation is the sleep away camps or the overnight camps wherein the attendees of the camp attend the camp through out the day, the summer camps both day and the sleep over camps can last for few days either a week or more than a week based on the different kinds of activities which they have in line. We recently got word of a camp that is opening in California that is similar to Camp Constitution:  Camp Liberty Generation.  It runs from Monday August 16 at Noon to Thursday August 19th.  It takes place at Boy Scout Camp Riggs in the Elk River Valley.  The cost is a donation of $60 plus a $10 donation for each additional family member.  For more information call the Camp Director at (707) 223-1255

Since Frederick W. Gunn founded the first American summer camp in 1861 summer summer camps have have evolved from an outdoor wilderness experience where boys paddled canoes and built campfires…… to a now astoundingly broad “Camp” term, that also signifies niche and specialty.

Thanks to Mr. Gunn, the great American tradition of summer camp continues to exist today. And even though the campfire spirit of summer camp is still alive; a greater diversity of camp types (film, horseback riding, adventure, computer) are around for boys, girls and teens to choose from. There are lots of wonderful summer experiences for kids and teens to partake in. Sending your kid to overnight camp is one of the most popular choices. For many, including myself as a kid, spending time each summer away at camp created a fun and exciting adventure away from home. Camp, especially longer program stays of 3 weeks or more, provides a true bonding experience among campers, counselors, directors and staff.

Returning each summer reunites kids with some great friends and creates the opportunity to have fun learning new sports and activities. More than that, overnight camps have special traditions, each one different, but always something special that builds the camping spirit and community.
