Charlie Kirk recently praised the late Jimmy Carter. In a recent post he wrote:
“Jimmy Carter represents a type of Democrat that no longer exists. Christian, loving husband and a true patriot. He was objectively an awful president, but he loved America and never intentionally tried to do it harm. America could use more Democrats like him.”

While he was a loving husband, and an awful president, everything else Charlie Kirk said about him is wrong. I agree with Charlie on many issues, appreciate his work in college campuses, and the role he took in getting young people to the polls, but he got this wrong. He is not alone; however, many conservatives have expressed similar sentiments. They look at his work with Habitat for Humanity while overlooking his record and his unwavering support for the globalists and the Democrat Party.
During the Carter Administration, I was a soldier in the U.S Army. After my basic training at Fort Dix NJ, and advanced training at Fort Lee, VA,* I did a tour of duty in Augsburg, West Germany in a field artillery unit with nuclear capabilities followed by a tour of duty at Fort Campbell, KY in the 101st Airbourne Division. While they didn’t call it DEI back then, we had a mandatory 40-hour race relations class. The men conducting the class were vile, and anti-White. A Green Beret officer, forced to attend, walked out in disgust. In the wake of these classes, race relations deteriorated. As a 19-year-old, I concluded that destroying race relations was the goal. During a battalion formation, we had to listen to a delegation from the Defense Department explaining how vastly inferior we were to the Soviets and Eastern Bloc nations. I asked why they don’t tell this to Congress and the President.” My question was never answered, but a senior NCO said to me “Shurtleff, why don’t you chase German, girls, drink beer, do your time, and don’t worry about these things.” Years later I learned that Carter’s National Security advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski-the father of Mika-advised Carter that if the Soviets attack NATO, let them have half. I was in that half of NATO that he was happy to give the Soviets.
When I left Boston for my military service, the cost of renting a decent one-room bedroom apartment in my neighborhood was $125. to $175. When I left the Army in 1980 and returned home, the cost of a one-bedroom apartment tripled. While all the blame cannot be laid upon Carter, his economic policies had led to double digit inflation and economic stagnation. The term “stagflation” was popularized during Carter’s term. While the media convinced voters that Jimmy Carter was an outsider, he was a charter member of the Trilateral Commission, an organization dedicated to a global government, and an “America Last” policy. Carter filled his cabinet with both Trilateral Commission and Council of Foreign Relations members. Carter’s international policy led Zbigniew Brzezinski-the ultimate Deep Stater -was an unmitigated disaster for the U.S. and its allies. Brzezinski had a love affair with Marxism. He remarked that “Marxism is simultaneously a victory of the external, active man over the inner, passive man and a victory of reason over belief.”
Carter betrayed the Shah of Iran that led to a takeover by radical Islamists, and the taking of American hostages. We are still paying for that disaster. The Carter Administration supported sanctions against Rhodesia which helped communist terrorist Robert Mugabe into power. Carter betrayed Somoza of Nicaragua paving the way for the communist Sandinista takeover of that once vibrant nation. He cut formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan in favor of diplomatic relations with Communist China. Perhaps his most destructive foreign policy was the giving of the Panama Canal to dictator Omar Torrijos. A provision in the treaty gave Panama millions of dollars to take the canal build by U.S. taxpayer money. Panama used a good portion of that money to pay off loans to the U.S. based Marine Midland Bank.
While his administration was supporting our enemies, he slashed the U.S. Military budget, opposed the B-1 bomber, the MX missile, and the development of the neutron bomb. He supported the SALT II treaty with the Soviet Union while acknowledging that the Soviets had violated the SALT I treaty. He also vetoed the construction of new aircraft carriers. As mentioned above, his military embraced an early version of D.E.I. with the mandatory race relations classes which helped to further erode morale
Carter’s domestic policies were not much better. His support of an increase in the minimum wage led to a high unemployment mainly for Blacks. While promising not to raise taxes for working families, he promptly supported tax policies that led to high inflation. His windfall profit tax on crude oil led to a huge increase in the cost of gasoline while discouraging domestic production. He supported a tax on imported oil and an tax increase on gasoline. These two measures were thankfully defeated.
While calling himself a “Born Again” Christian, he supported abortion while president and “same sex” marriage in later years. He, and all of the other ex-presidents came out in support of the job killing and unconstitutional NAFTA agreement. He was a diehard Democrat never wavering in his support for the destructive policies of the Democrat Party. His last political act was voting for Kamala Harris. The late Congressman Larry McDonald ran an open letter to Carter in the New York Times listing his disastrous policies and concluded “You either know what you are doing, or you don’t.” It is my opinion base on the facts that he did indeed know what he was doing. He wasn’t a patriot who loved America and never intentionally intended to harm America. Based on his support for abortion, “same-sex marriage, and the entire agenda of the Democrat Party, I would have to seriously question his commitment to Jesus Christ. I do, however, hope that he repented of his sins and is now in the presence of the Lord.

This is the time of year that we hear terms like “The Christmas Spirit,” “Seasons Greetings.” and “Happy Holidays.” For a Christian, the real meaning of Christmas and the reason for our happiness is the celebration of the Birth of the Savior of Mankind.
Pastor Jared Cassidy of the Community Church of Alton, NH gave what I thought, one of the best sermons on the Birth of Christ from the Biblical and historical perspective:

2(And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
3And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
5To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
11For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
13And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
16And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
18And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
19But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
Sunday December 15 marks the 233rd anniversary of the first ten amendments U.S. Constitution known as the Bill of Rights. It is important to point out that the Bill of Rights did not grant or give rights to anyone. Rights come from God, and the main reason for government at any level is to protect the God given rights of its citizens. The Bill of Rights unenumerated some rights and basically said that the federal government cannot mess with them. The word “right” doesn’t appear in the original U.S. Constitution. So, we don’t have any Constitutional rights; we have God given rights protected by the Constitution.
While doing research on this article, I thought I would see of the Biden Administration had issued a proclamation to commemorate Bill of Rights Day, and to my surprise I discovered that it did back in 2023. This may have been due to the fact the closest date on the LGBTQ+++++ calendar is Pansexual/Panromantic Pride Day celebrated on December 8, but I am sure that they will come up with another gender to celebrate on the 15th.
The first two paragraphs of the proclamation were good:
“On December 15, 1791, after years of debate and deliberation, our forebearers ratified the Bill of Rights. In doing so, they forever enshrined the fundamental rights and liberties we hold sacred as Americans and set in motion the greatest self-governance experiment in the history of the world.
The freedoms guaranteed by the Bill of Rights — the freedoms of religion, speech, press, assembly, privacy, and more — have helped define who we are as a people and served as our Nation’s enduring North Star. The 17 additional Amendments that have been ratified since have opened the doors of opportunity wider to each new generation. But time and again we have been reminded that progress is not linear, and freedom is never guaranteed; it requires constant vigilance.”
But it went downhill from there. It went on to denounce the Supreme Court for taking away the right of women to kill their unborn babies which is a lie. It simple left the issue of abortion to the states which was the case prior to the awful “Roe v Wade” decision. It also went on promote the conspiracy theory of voter suppression, advocated that Congress pass a law in order to strip the power of states to make their own election laws, and it denounced states that have passed or proposed laws against gender mutilation of children, and banning biological men from women’s sports and showers. Leave it to the Biden Administration to politicize everything it touches. Thankfully, we won’t be seeing many more proclamations by the Biden Administration which have done its utmost to trounce on many of the amendments in the Bill of Rights.
A Brief history of the Bill of Rights:
During the Constitutional Convention, there were some delegates who refused to support the proposed Constitution unless it contained a Bill of Rights; George Mason and Elbridge Gerry led the way. Delegates James Madison, the Father of the Constitution, was initially against a Bill of Rights believing that since the U.S. Constitution granted specific powers to the federal government, there was no need for a Bill of Rights. Mason and Gerry proposed a Bill of Rights on September 12, 1787, a few days before the Constitution was approved by the delegates. Roger Sherman of Connecticut rightfully contented that the proposed federal Constitution had no authority to repeal Bills of Rights enshrined in state constitutions. It was unanimously rejected by states each having one vote. James Wilson of Pennsylvania warned that by expressly listing rights, those that weren’t listed did not exist. This legitimate concerned was addressed by the Ninth and Tenth Amendments.
James Madison changed his position, and he made the issue of proposing a Bill of Rights a key part of his Congressional campaign. One of the first things Madison did as a member of Congress was to propose a Bill of Rights. On September 25, 1789, Congress agreed to 12 Amendments and submitted them to the states for ratification needing 3/4ths for approval. On December 15, 1791, Virginia ratified amendments three to twelve making them part of the Constitution. The second proposed amendment concerning Congressional pay raises was eventually ratified in 1992

The Bill of Rights:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Amendment II
A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
Amendment III
No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.
Amendment IV
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
Amendment V
No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.
Amendment VI
In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defense.
Amendment VII
In Suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise re-examined in any Court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.
Amendment VIII
Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.
Amendment IX
The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.
Amendment X
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
It is vitally important for American citizens learn about the Bill of Rights, and for that matter, the entire U.S. Constitution, and demand that elected officials adhere to their oaths to obey and uphold the U.S. Constitution. Here in New Hampshire, we have been doing a poor job of it since we have been sending those to Congress that routinely disobey their oaths. The best way to begin is to read the Constitution. Early last month, we got a call from one of the organizers of Lexington’s Patriot’s Day Parade inviting us to participate in the town’s 2025 Patriot’s Day Parade to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Lexington. We filled out the application and today we received this E-mail:


We will be hosting a homeschool overnight the evening before and take in both the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere and the Battle of Lexington Reenactment at our Lane House just a few blocks from the Battle Green.
Camp Constitution’s friend Larry Cleveland, Wreaths of America Location Coordinator for Rindge, NH invited us to attend a Wreaths Across America Stop Ceremony, and despite the inclement weather, we were very glad we did. The event took place at the Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner, MA-just a few towns from New Hampshire this past Monday-December 9. Speakers included Mt. Wachusett President James Vander-Hooven, Retired National Guard Captain Bruce Chester, U.S. Air Force Veteran and Mt. Wachusett student Thalyta Nascimento, and David Colburn, a Wreaths Across America organizer.
The Wreaths Across America caravan consisting of trailer trucks, SUVS, motorcycles, trikes, and a bus began their journey from Columbia Falls, Maine-headquarters for Wreaths Across America -making numerous stops before its ultimate destination Arlington National Cemetary. There were about 200 on hand including Marine ROTC candidates, local members of the VFW’s Honor Guard, and Gold Star Families to greet the members of the Caravan which numbered over 100. It was a moving experience to see Veterans, and families of Veterans who were either killed in action or passed away being recognized for their service and presented wreaths.

By the President of the United States of America. a Proclamation.
Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor—and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me “to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.”
Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be—That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks—for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation—for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his Providence which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war—for the great degree of tranquillity, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed—for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted—for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.

November 21, 2024 marked, the 404th Anniversary of the signing of the Mayflower Compact in what is now known as Provincetown Harbor Massachusetts. Camp Constitution was on hand for the 400th anniversary celebration of this historic event below the 252-foot granite Pilgrim Monument and in front of the Mayflower Compact bronze bas-relief in Provincetown-a short distance from the harbor where the actual signing took place.
Camp Constitution instructor and historian Rich Howell along with reenactors Al Rubega, Michael Heenan, Stan Wollman, and Jae Dunn participated in the ceremony.
