Gaslighting

Gaslighting is defined in the Urban Dictionary as “a form of intimidation or psychological abuse, where false information is presented to the victim, making them doubt their own memory, perception and quite often, their sanity”.  While gaslighting is something that can be done to an individual, we see it at a national level.  Here are just a few examples:

The George Floyd protests were mainly peaceful.

Black Lives Matter is a legitimate Civil Rights organization worthy of your support.

Antifa is a concept.

The Southern Border is secure.

Putin is responsible for inflation.

The laptop is Russian disinformation.

The 2020 election was the most secure election in our history.

Covid did not come from a lab in Wuhan.

The Covid 19 Vaccine is safe and will prevent you from getting and spreading Covid 19.

Our Democracy almost ended on January 6, 2021.  It was the darkest day in our history.

The Corporate Media or as it is called more recently “Fake News” collaborating with the Biden Administration, the Democrat Party and elements within the Republic Party are employing gaslighting at its finest.

The term comes from a British play “Gaslight” written by Patrick Hamilton in 1938.  It was made into a movie in 1940 directed by Thorold Dickinson.  An American remake was produced in 1944 starring Ingrid Bergman, and several others including a version in 2022.  Here is a link to the classic 1940 version:  https://rumble.com/v24vw2y-gaslight-the-1940-movie.html
