Happy Birthday Uncle Sam Wilson

The man who became the symbol of the United States, Samuel Wilson, was born in what is now Arlington, MA.  September 13, 1766.  As a young boy, he became a courier for the Committees of Safety.  He and his family moved to Mason, NH where his boyhood home still stands  as private museum.  He later moved to Troy, NY where he became a successful businessman and a much respected and beloved citizen  He became a brickmaker and a meat packer.  He marked his meat barrels with the initials U.
